More than 31,000 Moroccan students were enrolled in France in 2021 (up 3% over the previous year), and Canada hosted 7,220 Moroccan students in 2022—a 23% increase over 2021. Overall, at least 63,000 Moroccans study abroad.

UNESCO estimates that 48,453 Moroccans study abroad, making Morocco the third-largest sending country in the MENA region after Iran and Saudi Arabia. While France remains the primary destination, significant numbers also choose Ukraine, Italy, Spain, the United States and Canada.
With a population of about 38.4 million, Morocco is a young country—27% of its people are under 15 and 18% are aged 15–24, and the median age is 29. This youthful demographic provides a large pipeline of prospective students.
Most Moroccan degree programmes cost less than US$10,000 per year and are available in Arabic, French and English, making Moroccan students well-prepared for international study.
In the 2022–2023 academic year, Moroccan students formed the largest foreign community in France. Campus France's 2024 Key Figures report recorded 45,162 Moroccan students—11% of France's international student population and 13% growth since 2017. Morocco also ranks second only to China for the number of students in French business schools and is among the top ten countries for doctoral students.
